Considering the continued gravity of the situation created by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Allahabad High Court has decided to continue the system of enabling counsels to appear in virtual court hearings through the Video Conferencing mode, if so desired.

The High Court, that resumed physical functioning from June 8, has made it clear that the VC facility "is universally available to be availed by any lawyer/litigant in person."

Earlier, LiveLaw had reported that despite the looming Covid crisis, few benches were declining lawyers' request to enter appearance via video conferencing, stating that the facility is available only for those aged above 65 years.

The High Court has now clarified that the VC facility will be extended to all desirous Advocates, from July 13 onwards. Request for video conferencing facility must necessarily be lodged online on the link available on the official website of the High Court not later than by 1.00 P.M., one day before the date of hearing.

It is further intimated that "VC cubicles" have been set up at Stadium Pavilion, where lawyers may appear virtually, using seamless connectivity. These cubicles can cater to 30 simultaneous VC sessions during time slots earmarked for Courts separately.

Additionally, VC cubicles at the identified eSewa Kendras have also been earmarked and exclusively set apart for HC hearings enabling lawyers to participate in virtual hearings at the Kendra closest to their residence/office without having to travel to the High Court premises.

Significantly, the Lucknow Bench of the High Court has halted physical hearings and has reverted to virtual court hearings due to spike in Covid cases in the city.
