The Telangana High Court Advocates' Association has written to the Supreme Court expressing distress and serious dissatisfaction with the recommendations made by the High Court Collegium for the appointment of judges in the HC.

The letter sent on January 17, 2023, and received by the Supreme Court the next day, states that the members of the Bar Association have received complaints about a lack of fairness, transparency and social justice in the panel of names recommended.

The letter further states that following the representations, an extraordinary general body meeting of the Association was called on December 28 wherein it was unanimously resolved to take exception to the proposal as it did not represent other sections of the society and worse still an Advocate who is not a member of Telangana Bar Association is recommended at the cost of other deserving and meritorious Members of Telangana Bar Association.

It was also resolved that entire process of recommendation lacked merit, the concept of parent court, transparency and iniquitous high representations,” the letters further reads.

Consequently, the letter adds that the General Body of the Association has resolved to request the Apex Court and Government of India to recall the recommendations and make fresh proposals to make it more inclusive with due regard to merit, parent high court, social justice on the basis of the consultative process including the High Court Bar Association.
