A city court in Bengaluru on Tuesday rejected the bail application filed by Janata Dal (S) MLC Suraj Revanna who was arrested in connection with a case of alleged sexual abuse of a man and charged under sections Sections 377 (unnatural offences), 342 (illegal detention), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.
The 42nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate dismissed the bail application filed in the first case against him.
Special Public Prosecutor Ashok Naik had argued that the accused belongs to an influential family and there are chances of the victim being threatened if the accused is released on bail.
Further, the offence committed is serious in nature and investigation is ongoing thus not proper to release the accused on bail.
Suraj Revanna is the elder brother of Prajwal Revanna who has been accused in multiple sexual assault cases himself. He is also the elder son of political supremo HD Revanna.
On June 22, a youth had filed a complaint with Holenarasipur Rural Police alleging sexual harassment by Suraj Revanna. He alleged that Suraj had sexually assaulted him and one H.L. Shivakumar had threatened him with murder if he complained to the police about the harassment.
Following this, an FIR was registered against the accused. Recently another complaint on similar charges has been registered against Suraj Revanna.
