Supreme Court Extends Last Date For Admission To Engineering Courses In The State Of Odisha(OJEE) Till December 31, 2021

Taking into account the disability of students in being unable to take the OJEE, the Supreme Court recently extended the last date for admission to engineering courses in the State of Odisha till December 31, 2021.

The bench of Justices LN Rao, BR Gavai and BV Nagarathna had extended the last date while it was considering an application filed by Orissa Private Engineering Colleges Association.

"In the peculiar facts and circumstances of this case and taking into account the disability of the students in being unable to take the OJEE, we extend the last date for admission to engineering courses in the State of Odisha till 31st December, 2021," the bench noted in its order.

The Association had sought for extension of the last date for admission in the 1st year engineering course from 30th November, 2021 to 31st December, 2021. It was stated in the application that a large number of seats were vacant in the Private Engineering Colleges in view of several students not attending the OJEE due to the pandemic.

Senior Advocate Siddhartha Dave appearing for the petitioner had referred to an order passed by the High Court of Orissa from which it was clear that the State of Odisha did not have any objection.

The bench while issuing the direction also considered the application filed by AICTE in which the Court had approved the revised calendar on October 25, 2021 as per which the last date for admission to the 1st year engineering colleges for the academic year 2021-2022 was November 30, 2021 on which date, the courses had to commence.
