The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a PIL seeking the establishment of a "world class University" in India.

The petition was filed by an NGO named Banamali Das Welfare and Development Foundation.

The counsel for the petitioner submitted that although there were over hundred universities in India, none of them was 'world class' and that the Central Government was duty-bound to establish a 'world class university'.

The bench headed by the Chief Justice of India observed that a PIL seeking such a prayer cannot be entertained.

"There are many world class things which India does not have", CJI casually remarked while dismissing the petition.
