The Supreme Court Collegium has reiterated the name of Advocate Harpreet Singh Brar, Senior Advocate for appointment as a judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

The SC colleigum had recommended his name for elevation on July 25, 2022, approving the recommendation made by the High Court collegium in March 2022.

However, the Department of Justice flagged certain issues and returned the proposal in November 2022. Now, the Supreme Court collegium has reiterated his name after seeking fresh inputs from the High Court collegium on the issues flagged by the Centre. The Supreme Court collegium also took the views of two more consultee judges who were appointed to the Supreme Court recently.

"After examining all aspects of the matter, the Collegium is of the view that Shri Harpreet Singh Brar is fit and suitable for appointment as a Judge of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana", the Collegium comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice KM Joseph stated.

While reiterating the proposal, the Collegium said that it should be processed at the earliest.
