The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the name of Justice Ujjal Bhuyan as the new Chief Justice of Telangana High Court. Presently, he is a judge of the Telangana High Court. 

He has been recommended as Chief Justice of the High Court in view of the Collegium's recommendation to transfer the present Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma to Delhi High Court as its Chief Justice.

Justice Bhuyan was appointed as Additional Judge of Gauhati High Court on 17th October 2011 and confirmed on 20th March 2013. Justice Ujjal Bhuyan was closely associated with the Judicial Academy, Assam and National Law University, Guwahati.

He was transferred to Bombay High Court and took oath as Judge of Bombay High Court on 03.10.2019. After a two-year stint in Mumbai, he was transferred to Telangana High Court and took oath as Judge of Telangana High Court on 22.10.2021. He is also the Executive Chairman of Telangana State Legal Services Authority.
