The Supreme Court collegium has recommended the names of the following seven District Judges for appointment as Judges of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh:

  • Shri Roopesh Chandra Varshney,
  • Anuradha Shukla,
  • Sanjeev Sudhakar Kalgaonkar,
  • Prem Narayan Singh,
  • Achal Kumar Paliwal,
  • Hirdesh, and

As per Collegium’s statement, the above names were recommended by the Chief Justice of the HC on 23 November 2022 in consultation with his two senior-most colleagues.

The Chief Minister and the Governor of the State of Madhya Pradesh also endorsed the recommendations. The file was received in the Supreme Court from the Department of Justice on 7 April 2023.

In its resolution, the SC Collegium has also taken note of the fact that the above proposal involves the non-recommendation of two senior Judicial Officers.

The SC Collegium agreed with the justification given by the High Court Collegium in its Minutes for not recommending these senior Judicial Officers and hence, the above seven names were recommended for elevation.
