The Kerala High Court on Tuesday initiated a suo motu public interest writ petition to include 'Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia' in the group of rare diseases and to grant financial aid and support to the patients. It is a genetic disorders that affects adrenal glands.

A Division Bench consisting of Chief Justice S. Manikumar and Justice Shaji P. Chaly has issued notices to the State government and the Principal Secretary to its Health and Family Welfare Department and has posted the matter after a week. 

The plea was moved by a mother of three children, seeking financial aid as her two minor children are ailing from Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia. The petitioner averred that the eldest child is 90% autistic and is unable to fulfil his physical needs, cannot attend school and requires constant care and companionship. 

When the matter was taken up, State Attorney Advocate N. Manoj Kumar accepted notice on behalf of the Respondents and sought time to seek instructions in the this regard. 

The matter has been posted for after a week.
