Special Public Prosecutor Amit Prasad, who has been representing the Delhi Police in 2020 North-East Delhi riots cases, has tendered his resignation to Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.
In his letter written to LG Vinai Kumar Saxena on December 15, Prasad has said that in the last 3.5 years, he has handled the riots cases to the best of his ability, but he cannot continue as SPP in the cases now.
“I was appointed as Special Public Prosecutor for Delhi Riots 2020 Cases which I was continuing till date for 3.5years. In this period I have handled the prosecution cases to the best of my ability,” the letter reads.
It adds: “However, now I would not be able to continue and hence tendering my resignation with immediate effect. It is requested that my resignation may please be accepted forthwith. I would like to thank you for the opportunity given to me.”
A copy of the letter has also been sent to the courts of Additional Sessions Judges Sameer Bajpai and Pulastya Pramachala, the two judges hearing the riots cases.
Prasad has also been appointed as SPP in the Shraddha Walkar murder case. He will continue with the said appointment.
