A local Court in Uttar Pradesh on Monday remanded Aam Aadmi party leader and MLA, Somnath Bharti to 14 days judicial custody, after his arrest for allegedly making derogatory remarks against UP CM Yogi Adityanath.

Somnath, who was in UP to inspect the condition of government schools and hospitals, was arrested from Rae Bareili on Monday on allegations of Rioting, promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, etc.

Allegedly, when the Police altercated him from visiting a school in Raebareili on the pretext that the Amethi Police wants to interrogate him in connection to a case filed against the derogatory remarks, Bharti threatened the officers of getting them "stripped of their uniforms".

Subsequently, another FIR was lodged against him for obstruction of public servant performing his duty, criminal intimidation, etc.

He has been booked under Sections 147, 332, 353, 505(2), 153A, 504 and 506 of IPC and his bail application is listed for hearing on January 13.
