The Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh has decided to seek 50 lakh compensation from the Uttar Pradesh Government for the advocate who was killed today inside the Shahjahanpur District Complex.
"Shri Bhupendra Singh, Advocate was shot dead in the district Shahjahanpur court premises today. Apart from this, other incidents of murder of advocates have also come to the fore from other districts of the state, which is very sad," the UP Bar councils letter addressed to the office bearers of the state bar associations states.
Advocate Bhupendra Singh, who was shot dead inside the district court complex in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur district today at around 11:30 am, was reportedly speaking to someone when the incident took place, reported NDTV.
Additionally, the Council would also press for providing government service to the dependent of the deceased Advocate Bhupendra Singh. The Council also seeks similar relief for the family of other deceased advocates of the state.
The Council has also decided to request the Uttar Pradesh Government to implement the Advocate Protection Act for the safety of the Advocates.
In the letter issued by the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh, all the bar associations of the state have also been requested to abstain from judicial work on October 20 as a mark of protest against today's incident.
Importantly, the Council has also requested the administration to ban entry of people with weapons insider the court complex so that the advocates can work in a safe environment.
"It is requested to the government that many people with criminal tendencies enter the court premises with weapons, their entry should be strictly checked and the carrying of arms should be banned so that such criminal incidents can be stopped and advocates, who are officers of the court, can ensure participation in judicial work with fairness and fearlessness in a fear-free environment," the letter of the Bar Council states.
