The Government of Sikkim today appointed Shri Basava Prabhu S. Patil as the new Advocate General of the state.
A notification issued to this effect reads, "In pursuance of clause (1) of Article 165 of the Constitution of India, the Governor of Sikkim is hereby pleased to appoint Shri Basava Prabhu S. Patil, Senior Advocate as Advocate General of Sikkim with immediate effect".
Having graduated from University Law College, Bengaluru, Patil registered as advocate with the State Bar Council of Karnataka in 1991 and has the distinction of being designated as a Senior Advocate from the Karnataka High Court at the youthful age of 39 in 2008.
Presently, Patil's legal practice is centred around the Supreme Court. Over the years, he has represented diverse entities, ranging from the States of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh to the Law Minister of India, along with esteemed Chief Ministers and prominent conglomerates like Tata, Reliance, and GMR.
Notably, Patil is a distinguished member of the Supreme Court Board of Examiners, a position that involves overseeing the administration of the advocate-on-record exam.
