SC Calls Upon Allahabad HC Registrar General To Explain Reason For Inordinate Delay In Uploading Judgment [Read Order]

The Supreme Court has called upon the Registrar General of Allahabad High Court to explain the reason for inordinate delay in uploading a judgment on the website.

While hearing a special leave petition, the counsel brought to the notice of the bench led by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul that the impugned judgment was delivered on 06.11.2019, but it was uploaded on the website of the High Court only in the month of May, 2020. 

Inform us of the reason why there has been such inordinate delay in uploading the judgment on the website and the report be submitted to us within three weeks, said the bench also comprising Justice Hrishikesh Roy. The court also issued notice in the SLP as the counsel submitted that the parties have been living apart for 13 years and the marriage has irretrievably broken down.

Last month, Justice Kaul led bench had called upon the Registrar General of the Patna High Court to submit a report after it was submitted that there was a delay of more than one year in uploading judgment.

Last week, in yet another case, the bench ''reminded' the High Courts that delay in delivery of judgments is violation of Right to Life under Article 21 of the Constitution of India. That was, after the court noted that the impugned judgment was pronounced on 21.01.2020 being only the operative portion, and the reasons were published on 09.10.2020 after about 9 months.
