In an interim relief to CAA protesters from threat of police action in FIR registered over alleged violence, the Rajasthan High Court directed the Udaipur Police authorities to not take any "coercive action" against them.
While protection the protesters from arrest, the Court has directed them to cooperate with the investigation.
Alleging that the peaceful march against the CAA held on Janaury 29 took a violent turn, the state authorities registered FIRs against dozens of named and unnamed persons at the Bhupalpura police station, under various provisions of IPC.
While hearing the petitions filed by activist PR Salvi, also a leading participant during the protests, and 20 other persons named in the FIR, Justice Manoj Kumar Garg asked the state to file its reply in the matter within four weeks.
The court has also called for the case diary along with status report from the investigation Officer.
"The public prosecutor is directed to call for the case diary along with the status report from the investigation officer.
In the meanwhile and till next date of hearing, no coercive action shall be taken against the petitioners in connection with FIR No.25/2020 registered at Police Station Bhupalpura, Distt. Udaipur. However, petitioners shall required to join the investigation," the order read.
The January 29 protest was organized by an organization namely Bahujan Kranti Morcha.
