The Punjab & Haryana High Court Bar Association has written a letter to the high court, requesting it to declare August 14 as a local holiday.
It said that an "oral as well as a written request signed by more than 200 members of the Bar Association" has been received for declaring August 14 as a local holiday as the High Court is already closed from August 12 to August 15, except on August 14, which is a working day.
"If 14.08.2023 is declared as a holiday then it can be conveniently utilized by the Members of the Bar," said the bar association in the letter addressed to Registrar General, adding that in lieu of that any other day can be declared as a working day to complete the "minimum working number of days in a year."
The Bar Association requested the Registrar General to put up the request before the Chief Justice as well as the Chairman, Calendar Committee at the earliest.
