In a letter addressed to the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association intimated the high court regarding a threat letter that it had received.
The letter dated October 23 discloses that one Aadil Khan, a resident of Mohali, had threatened to "destroy" both the high court as well as the Chandigarh District Court on October 29.
The letter states,
"A letter has been received in the office of Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association today, i.e., 23.10.2019 from one Aadil Khan…a resident of village Hasanpur, Mohali regarding threat to destroy the Punjab and Haryana High Court as well as District Court, Chandigarh on 29.10.2019 in the day time."
The threat was made in light of alleged atrocities faced by people of Kashmir, on account of government's actions. The threat letter states,
"I am informing you only because my purpose is only to open the eyes of the Sultanate and to intimate it that in case the atrocities on our community in Kashmir continue, we will continue to pursue the path of 'Jihaad', until death. Therefore, cease the atrocities prevalent in Kashmir. I inform you all that on October 29, 2019, I will inaugurate the Chandigarh District Court at 12.18 PM and the Punjab and Haryana High Court at 12.28 PM. Therefore, I request all my lawyer friends to stay away from the inauguration as the inauguration will be so grand and will be followed by such a blast that the government will be forced to re-build the District Court and the high court."
