Senior Advocate Gurminder Singh submitted his resignation from the post of Punjab's Advocate General (AG), after serving for 18 months, to the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann

In the letter dated March 30, he wrote “As I intend to resume my private practice, I am not inclined to continue on the post.”

He is the fourth AG to resign from post in Punjab in three years of the Aam Aadmi Party government. 

Senior Advocate Singh has been practising in High Courts of Punjab & Haryana, Himachal, Delhi since 1989. He has also been standing counsel for Medical Council of India, Dental Council of India, Union Service Public Commission, Punjab Vidhan Sabha and other Boards and Corporations of the State. 

The Punjab and Haryana High Court has appointed him as the Amicus Curaie in various Public Interest Litigations. He had earlier served as assistant advocate general and deputy advocate general.

Senior Advocate Singh, was counsel in  various landmark decisions and had represented Civil Judges and Judicial Magistrates in Haryana who sought appointment to the district judiciary and have challenged the State's decision rejecting High Court's recommendations for promotion of 13 judicial officers.
