Professors of the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College have approached the Delhi High Court seeking a direction to be issued to the Delhi Government to pay their salaries and other emoluments.

Filed by Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, and the Professors of the college, the petition claims that salaries, pensions, encashment of medical bills, retirement benefits, and emoluments have not been paid since May 2020.

While highlighting that the Delhi Government is responsible for providing 100% grant to the college, the Petitioners have argued that the said government has not released the Grant-in-Aid since May 2020, bridging the lives of the entire staff of the College to a standstill.

The petition says:

'Petitioners are suffering immensely by the illegal, inhumane, and callous decision of the GNCTD, to withhold and block the grants to the college without care and consideration for the survival and livelihood of the Professors, in violation and abrogation of the rules and procedures.'

Moreover, the Petitioners have argued, the GNCTD has not given any reason for non-payment of the salaries to the Professors.

'Non-payment of salaries by the GNCTD is a violation of Article 300-A of the Constitution and the non-encashment of medical bills have brought the lives of the Professors to the brink of destruction', the Petitioners submit.

Therefore, the Petitioners have demanded the court to direct the Delhi Government to release the salaries of the entire staff forthwith.

In addition to this, the Petitioners have also demanded payment of 12% interest on the salaries accruable from the due date, as well as, encashment of medical bills.
