A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) plea has been moved before the Calcutta High Court seeking a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as to why the Leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Suvendu Adhikari's convoy got involved in multiple accidents off late.

The PIL plea has been moved by a practicing advocate of the Calcutta High Court, Ravi Ranjan Kumar through Advocate Arijit Majumdar alleging that a plan to assassinate Adhikary, a 'Z' category VIP security cover holder, is cooking and the police are remaining silent for the reasons best known to them.

The plea alleges that planned attacks are going on and life of the leader of the opposition of West Bengal is in threat and the incidents of accidents of the convoy of Adhikary should be investigated by CBI to unearth the truth.

The plea also alleges that Adhikary has become a political threat to many TMC leaders and from different political stages and that the petitioner has seen them giving threats to Adhikary and that CM Mamata Banerjee and MP Abhishek Banerjee used some derogatory words against Adhikary from different stages and that give rise to suspicion.

The plea submits that on three occasions, one of the cars in Adhikari's convoy was hit by a truck. The first incident had taken place on July 1 at Marishda in Purba Medinipur district while the second incident occurred on July 12 near Kalikapur on EM Bypass in the city and on 22nd August 2022, his convoy again met with an accident at Purba Medinipur.

"As per protocol, Shri Suvendu Adhikary gives his schedule to state authority and his routes are known to police and it is absurd to believe that those are just accidents and not any planned incidents...All 3 accidents which happened with the convoy of Shri Suvendu Adhikary can be preplanned incident and that needs to be investigated by any independent agency. The plan of the assassination of Shri Suvendu Adhikary is cooking and police is remaining silent for the reasons best known to them," the plea further submits.

Consequently, the PIL plea seeks an investigation into the three accidents by the CBI.
