Senior Lawyer Pitambar Acharya Appointed As New Advocate General Of Odisha

The Odisha Government, on Friday, appointed Senior Advocate and BJP leader Pitambar Acharya as the new Advocate General for the State of Odisha.

The constitutional post of the top law officer of the State was lying vacant after the resignation of previous Advocate General Ashok Parija in June after the then ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) lost Assembly election in the State.

After Parija's resignation, Government Advocate Jyoti Prakash Patnaik was appointed as the interim Advocate General for Odisha.

Acharya did his graduation from University Law College, Utkal University, Bhubaneswar. He is also a holder of Master degree in Political Science. He switched to active law practice in 1990's after a brief stint as a journalist.

He has been very active in the politics and has acted as the State Vice-President and spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In 2019, Acharya contested Assembly election from Hinjili constituency but he had to face defeat from the former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
