The Karnataka High Court on Friday said that it will hear on April 16 a petition filed seeking to implement Audio Video recording in the courts of the State of Karnataka.

A division bench of Chief Justice Abhay Oka and Justice Ashok S Kinagi also allowed an intervention application filed by Mumbai based businessman, Amrish Kilachand. The intervener wanted to demonstrate the importance of live streaming proceedings and maintaining a legal transcript of the proceedings to the court.

The plea states that in other countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada, United States of America and countries of the European Union, court proceedings are live streamed and the transcripts of such proceedings, including depositions are recorded and made available to the public.

The plea prays for directions to implement the judgment of the apex court regarding live streaming.
