Patna High Court has sought response from the Patna Municipal Corporation and the district administration in a matter related to the lack of public toilets for women in the city and the debilitating condition of the already existing ones.

Expressing concern over the present situation, a division bench of Chief Justice Sanjay Karol and Justice S Kumar ordered,

"Patna Municipal Corporation and district administration shall be submitted the reply within two weeks."

The development ensued in a PIL filed by Advocate Sanjeev Kumar Mishra.

During the hearing, the petitioner-advocate submitted that there is a lack of public toilets at places like Patna Junction, Rajendra Nagar Station, Golambar, Mithapur-Dak Bungalow, Gandhi Maidan, Kargil Chowk.

It has been submitted in the petition that even the already built toilets are not being maintained; public urinals and toilets constructed in these places two years ago with government funds of Rs.20 crore, have become dysfunctional and people are facing a lot of trouble.

In the earlier hearing, the petitioner had submitted that public toilets have been constructed at many places to make Patna clean and beautiful, but at present the plight of these toilets is not hidden from anyone.

The court had directed the state government to take a look at these issues and submit a report.

Commenting on the works of the Municipal Corporation, the court pointed out that after hearing all the parties, it is clear that it is the responsibility of the Municipal Corporation to make Patna clean and beautiful, so they should take concrete steps in this direction.

AAG Yogendra Prasad Singha appeared for the state.

The matter will now be heard on 13th May, 2022.
