The Kerala Government told the High Court of Kerala on Friday that it has taken a decision to permit only modern medicines for treatment of COVID-19.
A bench comprising Justices Raja Vijayaraghavan and T R Ravi was hearing a writ petition filed by one M S Vineeth seeking permission for practice of Homeopathy.
The petitioner claimed that the Ministry of AYUSH has recognized homeopathy as a treatment mode for the novel coronavirus disease.
In this regard, P Narayanan, Senior Government Pleader, submitted that the AYUSH Ministry's advisory was only regarding the use of homeopathy and other systems of alternative medicine for boosting immunity, and not for treating COVID-19.
At this juncture, the bench invited the petitioner's attention to the order passed by the Supreme Court on April 15 to dismiss a similar plea made by a homeo doctor for exploring alternative medicines for COVID-19.
While the bench expressed its inclination to dismiss the petition on this note, the petitioner claimed that the revised guidelines issued by the Union Home Ministry on April 15 has included AYUSH practices in the list of activities permissible after April 20.
As the petitioner sought time to produce those guidelines, the bench adjourned the matter to post it after vacation.
On April 15, a bench led by Justice Ramana of SC dismissed a similar petition observing "Corona is a new virus. We can't experiment around. Let experts come up with a vaccine. Wait".
