The Kerala High Court on Wednesday sought the State government's stand on Olympian Mayookha Johny's plea to quash the FIR lodged against her for allegedly raising false rape allegations.

Justice K Haripal directed the Public Prosecutor to take instructions in the plea and listed the matter for hearing on December 6th.

The petitioner argued that the case was lodged to pressurise her into withdrawing her support to a friend who was raped by a man, who also took her nude photos and used them to blackmail her.

Advocate P.A. Ayub Khan appearing for the petitioner contended that the case against one of the prime accused in the FIR was quashed and therefore, the same relief could be granted for her as well.

The accused in the rape case was denied anticipatory bail by the high court, but he was later granted protection from arrest by the Supreme Court in an appeal.

The impugned FIR was lodged by the police upon the direction of a trial court based on a complaint alleging that the rape and threat claims allegedly levelled against the petitioner were false. The complaint had claimed that the threat letter shown by the Olympian as being addressed to her was fabricated.

The petitioner had made headlines in July after holding a press conference levelling serious allegations against the investigation agencies in the case. She alleged that her friend was being threatened and that the investigation had come to a standstill due to the intervention of highly influential persons in favour of the accused.
