NGT Seeks Status Report On Implementation Of GRAP To Reduce Air Pollution In And Around Delhi [Read Order]

Taking cognizance of deterioration of air quality in and around Delhi, National Green Tribunal has asked the Chief Secretary, Delhi, Chairman, DPCC, Member Secretary, CPCB and the concerned Joint Secretary, Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) to remain present on Tuesday, to examine the status of implementation of Graded Response Action Plant (GRAP) and other measures adopted to contain Air pollution.

The bench led by Chairperson Adarsh Kumar Goel and other members took cognizance of the news and print reports highlighting the Air Quality Deterioration In And Around Delhi. It said "Today's situation is not creation of one day. It is continuous negligence and apathy of statutory authorities in enforcing the law."

The bench added "While remedial action may continue to be taken in the best possible manner, there is urgent need to have proper planning to address the gaps in existing enforcement strategies and existing undesirable situation. There is need to ascertain why there is a failure and what should be the preventive strategies and remedial measures to ensure that the present situation does not recur in the future." It reiterated that "Air pollution is a source of diseases and threat to life. As per several studies, statics of death and health hazards have been given. The problem is well acknowledged."
