National Green Tribunal has called for a factual and action taken report be given jointly by National Wetland Authority, Government of India, State Wetland Authority, Rajasthan, Rajasthan State PCB and District Magistrate, Jaipur, on the issue of carcasses of 18000 migrated birds, found at Sambhar lake.

A bench led by Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel which took cognizance of a news report, published in a daily newspaper said "Substantial question of environment with regard to compliance of norms prescribed under the Wetland Rules framed under Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 arises."

As per the report death of such a large number of birds have taken place on account of violation of environmental norms in maintaining the eco system of the wetland in question including water quality, plant invasion in water bodies etc.

Tribunal said the State Wetland Authority will be nodal agency for coordination and compliance. The report be furnished before the next date by e-mail at judicialngt@gov.in. Posted the matter for further hearing on January 22, 2020.
