The Cabinet Committee of has approved the the appointments of four Judges as the Judicial members of the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
They are:
- Justice Brijesh Sethi, former Judge at the Delhi High Court
- Justice B. Amit Sthalekar, presently Judge at the Allahabad High Court
- Justice M. Sathyanarayanan, presently Judge at the Madras High Court
- Justice (Retd) Sudhir Agarwal, former Judge at the Allahabad High Court
They shall hold office for a period of 4 years or upto attaining the age of 65 years, or until further orders, whichever is the earlier.
Their appointments were notified by the Department of Personnel and Training under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pension, pursuant to the decision taken by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
Justice Sethi obtained his degree in Law from the Delhi University in 1982. He joined the Delhi Judicial Service on November 4, 1986 and got promoted to Higher Judicial Service in the year 2000. He got elevated as a permanent Judge of the Delhi High Court on 27th May, 2019 and retired therefrom on November 30, 2020.
Justice Sthalekar obtained his degree in Law from Allahabad University in 1983. He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court on November 21, 2011 and he took oath as a Permanent Judge on August 6, 2013.
Justice Sathyanarayanan was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Madras High Court on April 23, 2008 and as a permanent Judge on November 9, 2009.
Justice Agarwal obtained his degree in Law from Meerut University in 1980. He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court on October 05, 2005. He took oath as a permanent Judge on August 10, 2007 and served until April 23, 2020.
With these appointments, the NGT will now have 7 Judicial Members and 3 Expert Members, in addition to the Chairperson.
