[Breaking] NEET, JEE Exams To Be Held On Dates In September As Announced Earlier: National Testing Agency

The National Testing Agency (NTA) issued a press release on Tuesday stating that NEET(UG) and JEE(Main) exams will be held on the dates as announced before.

The dates for JEE are from September 1 to 6 and the date of NEET exam is on September 13.

The press release refers to the Supreme Court's order which dismissed a plea seeking postponement of the exams amid COVID-19 by stating "We find that there is absolutely no justification in the prayer made for postponement of the examination in question relating to NEET-UG 2020 as well as JEE (Main)".

The NTA said that it has released the admit cards of JEE Main Examination and that the admit cards of NEET-UG will be released shortly. The Agency said that it has ensured that more than 99% candidates get their first choice of Centre Cities.

The number of Examination Centres has also been increased from 570 to 660 (in case of JEE) and 2564 to 3843 (in case of NEET). Additionally, the number of shifts for JEE has been increased from the earlier 8 to 12 and the number of candidates per shift has been reduced from earlier 1.32 lakh to 85000 now.

The NTA said that 8.5 lakh and 15.97 lakh students have registered for JEE(Main) and NEET-UG respectively.

"In order to ensure proper social distancing inside the examination halls, the candidates will be seated in alternate seats in case of JEE(Main). In case of NEET (UG), the number of candidates per room has been reduced from earlier 24 to 12 now", the press release stated.

For ensuring social distancing outside the examination hall, the entry and exit of candidates have been staggered. Adequate arrangements have also been made outside the examination centres to enable candidates stand with adequate social distancing. Candidates have also been issued advisory regarding 'Dos' and 'Dont's' for proper social distancing.

The NTA said that it has written to state governments to extend support in local movement of the candidates so that they are able to reach their examination centres on time.

The NTA assures all candidates a safe environment for tests and solicits cooperation from the candidates and their parents in following the standard operating procedures.
