 The State of West Bengal organised the National Lok Adalat on September 11, 2021 under the aegis of the State Legal Services Authority, West Bengal and the National Legal Services Authority.  A total number of 229 benches were constituted in the State for amicable settlement of disputes in the Lok Adalat.

38,795 pre-litigation matters were taken up in the Lok Adalat out of which 10,600 matters were disposed of with the awarded amount of Rs. 25,22,31,7491. Furthermore, 20,781 pending cases were taken up out of which 14,102 cases were disposed of with the awarded amount of Rs 1345,32,21,886

A total number of 59,576 cases were taken up out of which 24,702 cases were settled with the awarded amount to the tune of Rs 1370,54,53,635

Additionally, close to 29,752 pre-litigation bank loan recovery cases were taken up out of which 4472 cases were settled and the total settlement amount was Rs. 24,98,40,148. 

In a major breakthrough, a suit for infringement of trademark and copyright that was pending before the Commercial Court, Alipore was settled in the Lok Adalat Branch of DSLA, South 24-Parganas, Alipore. The petitioner claimed Rs 1300 crores towards loss and damages in the plea which was settled amicably. 

"The Hon'ble Patron-in-Chief and Executive Chairman, State Legal Services Authority, West Bengal had laid great emphasis on settlement of Motor Accident Claims and Cheque Bounce Cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act as a result of which 139 pending cases under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act (total settlement amount Rs 1,72,04,132) and 893 Motor Accident Claim Cases were settled (total settlement amount Rs 43,01,82,490)", the press release stated.
