National Lockdown: NLU-D Launches E-Library For Providing "Uninterrupted Access" To Legal Information Resources To The Legal Fraternity [Read Press Note]

The National Law University, Delhi has launched an E-Library for providing "uninterrupted access" to legal information resources to its students and the legal industry amid the nationwide lockdown.

The Justice TPS Chawla Library established at NLU-D offers information services to its students and faculty members with the help of ICT techniques. This has enabled the access of subscription based databases through Digital Access Portal to its students and faculty members from outside campus based on access credentials assigned. The Digital Access Portal provides access of subscription based databases and open access/public domain resources as well.

  • The library facilitates access of more than 25000 eBooks and more than 15000 eJournals through its subscribed databases.
  • Judicial pronouncements, both of the Indian Courts as well as almost all foreign Apex Courts and International Courts are accessible in digital formats.
  • A huge treasure of legal information resources is available in the Library's Public Domain, viz. more than a few billion ebooks and legal articles.
  • It regularly circulates digital copies of Newspapers and magazines to the NLU-D faculty members.
  • Research based queries from undergraduate and post graduate students of the University, professors, judicial officers, Judges, government officials and students from other law schools are solved on daily basis by the library.

The Guide is divided into certain parts in the following manner:

Public Domain Legal Resources

This section of the portal is open for all and can be accessed by any law practitioner or student around the world. They can access verity of legal information including parliamentary, legislative, judicial and law reform resources.

Open Educational Resources

This section compiles more than few billions of books and scholarly articles published in peer reviewed scholarly journals. It also furnishes access of various massive open online courses and open education resources.

Open Online Resources

This section expounds various open educational resources and massive open online courses explaining about Commonwealth of Learning, Swayam: Free Online Education, ePgPathshala, eAcharya, NPTEL, Vidya Mitra, IIMBx, Harvardx and Stanford University Courses.

In addition to this, the University has assisted in development of more than 400 modules in the subject of Law Post Graduate Courses modules developed by UGC.

As per a statement issued in this behalf, "the University has assisted UGC for development of sixteen subjects for Criminology under ePg-Pathshala Project. The faculty of the University have also contributed and developed a number of MOOCs under SWAYAM-MHRD PORTAL on Research Methodology, Corporate Law, Environmental Law, ICT, IPR and Access to Justice."
