Prof (Dr) GS Bajpai has been appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the National Law University, Delhi and assumed the charge on February 28.
Prof Bajpai has succeeded Prof. SriKrishna Deva Rao, who was appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of the NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad in November last year.
Prof. Bajpai has formerly served as the Vice-Chancellor of the Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Patiala, Punjab. He has previously also served as the Registrar, National Law University Delhi. He was also Professor of Criminology & Criminal Justice (Law); Chair Professor at K.L Arora Chair in Criminal Law; as well as the Chairperson of the Centre for Criminology & Victimology at National Law University Delhi.
Prof. Bajpai has also served as Convenor, Committee for Reforms in Criminal Laws set up by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.
Prof. Bajpai has more than thirty years of professional experience as an author, researcher, teacher and administrator. He holds a doctorate in victimology and a post-doctorate in criminal justice from Leicester University, UK as Commonwealth Fellow at the Department of Criminology, Leicester University, U.K.
Prof. Bajpai has authored twenty one books/monographs, more than fifty papers, around sixty op-eds in the leading dailies like The Indian Express, the Hindu, the Tribune and thirteen project reports.
He has also been appointed as Amicus Curiae in several cases including by the Delhi High Court in Babloo Chauhan v. State Govt. NCT of Delhi and Karan v. State of NCT of Delhi.
His areas of interest are victim justice, critical criminal law, criminal procedure, empirical legal research and legal theory.
