NALSAR Alumni & Students Facilitate Travel Of 250+ Migrants; Provide Food & Ration In Cyclone Hit Bengal [Read Press Note]

To this end, they have partnered with multiple civil society organizations and individuals, including Foodshaala Foundation, and have undertaken the following projects:

Flight travel from Bengaluru to Raipur

Under this project, 174 workers and their children, including several infants, have been transported from Bengaluru to Raipur, via an Indigo flight.

This was done in collaboration with Loving Migrant Workers Network (LMWN) and Samerth Charitable Trust (Samerth) who arranged for air travel on this route, and further with the Azim Premji University that arranged for ration kits and food for these people at Chhattisgarh.

Thanking its partners for the immense support a press release has been issued by the NALSAR which reads,

"This initiative would not have been possible without the support from our transport partner, Indigo Airlines. The sensitivity and professionalism of the entire Indigo staff greatly aided our efforts in ensuring a dignified and safe travel for the migrant workers. We owe the successful completion of the flight arrangements to the tremendous teamwork of about 50 alumni and student volunteers, who spent days and nights ensuring that our passengers were flight-ready, infection risk-free, and able to cross any hurdles in reaching the airport on time. We especially thank Shyel Trehan, C. Nandakumar, and Suhaan Mukherjee for providing crucial guidance to our efforts in making the flight arrangements"

Bus travel from Asind to Chitrakoot

Under this project, bus-travel of 9 migrant worker families, comprising of 20 adults and 25 children, from Bhilwara district in Rajasthan to Chitrakoot in Uttar Pradesh, was facilitated in collaboration with Jai Bhim Vikas Seva Sanstha.

Travel of 21 migrant workers from Kerala to Jharkhand

The group facilitated home-bound return of 21 migrant workers from Jharkhand who were stranded in Aloor, Kerala, by way of Shramik trains. During the journey, their partner Goonj provided the migrant workers with meals, besides bread, biscuits and water bottles.

Further, on reaching the destination, the local administration facilitated the migrants' journey back to their respective homes in Jamtara, Jharkhand.

Food aid in West Bengal

The group has collaborated with the Bangla Sanskriti Mancha for supply of ration kits to 200 families in the cyclone hit Bengal. They are also in the process of disbursing a sum of Rs. 1 lakh to the National Hawker Federation in Kolkata for their community food kitchens.

Food Support at the Secunderabad Railway Station

On receiving an intimation that certain migrant workers and their children were travelling on a train from Bengaluru to Nagpur without food, the volunteers at Secunderabad liaised with the Centre for Social Justice, to provide food to the passengers at the Secunderabad station.

Bus Travel from Karimnagar, Telangana to Balangir, Odisha

The group funded the bus travel of 29 employees of a brick kiln in Telangana and seven infants from Karimnagar to Balangir in Odisha.

Logistical support for bus travel from Shillong, Meghalaya to Chandel, Manipur

They also provided logistical support in facilitating the bus travel of 90 passengers by putting the concerned NGO in touch with third-party funders; and monitored and vouched for them to ensure they are able to cross the border between Meghalaya and Manipur without any hassles.
