On Tuesday, a Jharkhand court refused bail to two men accused of assaulting a mentally ill Muslim man in Dhanbad and forcing him to chant 'Jai Shri Ram'. It is alleged that the accused are associated with the Bhartiya Janta Party.
The matter was posted before Chief Judicial Magistrate Sanjay Kumar Singh.
After a written complaint with respect to the alleged incident was received, FIR was registered under Sections 143 (Unlawful Assembly), 149 (Common Object in Unlawful Assembly), 323 (Voluntarily Causing Hurt), 307 (Attempt to Murder), 153A (Promoting Enmity) of the Indian Penal Code.
As per the FIR, information was received on January 07, 2022, by the victim's brother, noting that the goons of BJP assaulted his mentally ill brother to kill. The FIR named six identified men and one unidentified man as accused.
It is averred in the complaint that when the complainant and his mentally ill brother were crossing an ongoing demonstration by the BJP party, they were called out for wearing Pathan Suits, an identifier for the Muslim religion. After that, his brother was chased by 8-10 men and beaten mercilessly. He also alleged that the accused forced his brother to lick their spit and chant 'Jai Shree Ram'.
The video of this incident went viral on several social media platforms and was reported widely.
