In the backdrop of the murder of Advocate Ranjith Srinivasan in Alappuzha in Kerala, the Bar Council of India has resolved to write to the Government of India through Home Ministry demanding the matter to be investigated by some Central Agency like NIA or CBI.

In its meeting held on December 20, the council has taken the resolution to demand the investigation by the Central Agency on the basis of the majority of votes, with one dissent. Mr.Manoj Kumar N, a member from Kerala and also the State Attorney of Kerala, dissented. Mr YR Sadasiva Reddy, a member from Karnataka, suggested investigation by CBI or local police.

The Council is to write a letter to the Home Minister and the Union Minister for Law and Justice in this regard for getting the crime investigated by some Central Agency without any delay.

The Council has taken the decision considering the Resolution passed by the Bar Council of Kerala yesterday i.e. 20.12.2021 and some Newspaper reports stating that Advocate Rajnith Srinivasan, who was a Member of Alappuzha Bar Association, was murdered by the anti-social elements and criminals belonging to S.D.P.I.

According to BCI, the local police has not yet been able to arrest anybody and as per the view expressed by some Members of State Bar Council, the local police is trying to give a political color to the incident and to hush up this serious incident.

"The Bar Council of India, being the representative body of the Advocates is not supposed to sit tight over such brutal murders of advocates. Such incident of killings of the Advocates is increasing day by day and the Bar Council of India has been demanding for the proper Law to protect the Advocates and their family." the Bar Council has said.

According to the Bar Council of India, only a Central Agency can find out the truth. The Council has also demanded that the killing of another man namely K. S. Shan of S.D.P.I, may also be investigated by the same Central Agency.

It was on the morning of December 19 that Advocate Ranjith Sreenivasan, who was also a BJP member, was hacked to death in his house in Alappuzha, few hours after the murder of SDPI member KS Shan.

The Bar Councils of Kerala, Madhya Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir have passed resolutions expressing anguish over the death of Advocate Ranjith Sreenivasan and demanding proper probe and strict action against the assailants.

Also, the Jharkhand State Bar Council has called for an 'expeditious probe' into the matter by the NIA. The Union Law Minister, Kiren Rijiju has urged the Kerala government and local police to take strong action in the matter.
