The Sessions Court at Mumbai allowed the pre arrest bail application filed by Republic TV Chief Operating Officer Priya Mukherjee on Friday. Mukherjee is an accused in the fake Television Rating Points Scam case registered by the Mumbai police.
Court directed Mukharjee to be released on a personal bond of Rs.50,000 in case of an arrest and asked her to appear before the concerned police station once every week. Previously, the Karnataka High Court had granted transit bail for 20 days to Priya Mukherjee. After the period of 20 days, Mukherjee had to approach the appropriate forum for relief, the High Court had said. Apprehending arrest, she file anticipatory bail application before the Sessions Court yesterday.
On December 5, the Sessions Court granted bail to Republic TV's Assistant Vice President Ghanshyam Singh who was arrested on November 10, in connection with the fake TRP Scam Case.
After Mumbai Police's crime branch filed the chargesheet in the fake TRP Scam case, both ARG outlier Media Private Limited (which owns Republic TV) and Arnab Goswami moved Bombay High Court seeking the stay of the investigation/further investigation by the Crime Intelligence Unit, DCB CID, Crime Branch in the TRP Scam Case.
Petitioners have alleged in their Interim Application that the investigation in the fake TRP Scam Case is a "witch hunt targeted at petitioners for its criticism of the Government."
