The Central Government today informed the Lok Sabha that according to statistics collated by National Crime Records Bureau, there were no CCVTs installed in prisons in Mizoram and Lakshadweep as of 31.12.2019.
The information was disclosed by Union Minister Mr. Kiren Rijiju in written response to a question raised by MP Ravikumar D., seeking details of central and district prisons with CCTV cameras in all States and UTs.
The reply gives the details of the number of CCTVs installed in prisons state-wise.
Uttar Pradesh (2757) and Gujarat (2314) have the highest number of CCTVs in prisons among the states.
The Minister informed the Lok Sabha that there was no data on the availability of internet facility in central and district prisons.
The MP had also sought information on the steps taken by the Ministry of Law and Justice to digitize the delivery of court orders especially bail orders to prison authorities.
In response, the Minister informed the House that the FASTER (Fast and Secured Transmission of Electronic Records) system was in place to enable the transmission of e-authenticated copies of interim orders, bail orders, and records of proceedings. In the case of High Court and District Courts, " to digitize the delivery of court orders including bail orders, the integration of e-prisons software and case information software through Application Programme Interface (API) is being taken up," the Ministry states.
The Ministry also states that no centralized data is available on disciplinary action taken against jail authorities who have willfully delayed the release of prisoners as the management and administration of prisons falls exclusively within the domain of State governments.
