Justice Nidumolu Mala and Justice S. Sounthar were sworn in as Additional Judges of the Madras High Court on Monday. Chief Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari administered the oath for the newly appointed judges.

The swearing-in ceremony was followed by a welcome address by the Advocate General, followed by speeches from the Chairman of Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, President of the Madras High Court Advocates' Association, Madras Bar Association, Women Lawyers' Association and Law Association, Madras.
This was followed by speeches delivered by the newly sworn-in Judges.
Justice Mala expressed her gratitude to CJI N V Ramana, members of the Supreme Court Collegium and Collegium Judges of the Madras High Court. She then expressed gratitude to her family, her seniors and her colleagues. The greatest strength of the judiciary is the faith of the people in it, she added.
"Faith, confidence and acceptability cannot be commanded, they have to be earned. That can be done only by maintaining the inner strength of morality and ethics. I will endeavour to keep the faith and hope of people in this great institution with my hard work, dedication and sincere efforts," she added.
She concluded by encouraging the junior members of the bar to dream, work hard and achieve their dreams.
Justice Sounther began by thanking the CJI, members of the Supreme Court and Madras High Court collegium for recommending and approving his name for elevation. He thanked his seniors, colleagues and his family who have helped him in his journey as a lawyer for over three decades.
He concluded with the observation of the Apex court in S. Nagaraj v. State of Karnataka where the court observed that "Justice is a virtue which transcends all barriers. Neither the rules of procedure nor technicalities of law can stand in its way. Even law bends before justice."
The recommendation to elevate them was made by the Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting held on 16th February, 2022.
