The Madras High Court (Madurai Bench) on Wednesday (11th November) directed the producers of the adult horror-comedy film "Iruttu Arayil Murattu Kuthu – Irandam Kuthu" to remove the teaser of the movie from the social media.

The Bench of Justice N. Kirubakaran and Justice B. Pugalendhi issued the abovesaid direction while hearing two Public Interest Litigation (PIL) Petitions filed by Petitioners, 'Samuganeethi Kalvi Panpattu Maiyam' (a cultural outfit) and M. Lakshmi.

Prayers of the Petitioners

Petitioner 'Samuganeethi Kalvi Panpattu Maiyam' prayed before the Court that the Central Board of Film Certification be directed to not grant certification to any movie which is not in accordance with the guidelines issued by it and permanently injuncting the Respondents 7 to 13 (Producers of the movie in question), their men, agents, staff or any person claiming through them, from releasing the movie Irandam Kuthu, or the contents therefrom, in any form of media.

As per the report of Hindustan Times, Petitioner 'Samuganeethi Kalvi Panpattu Maiyam', in its petition had listed all the sexual innuendos in the teaser's dialogues.

It submitted before the Court that children attending online classes due to Covid-19 had the "possibility of uncontrolled viewership" of the movie's "vulgar and obscene teaser".

On the other hand, Petitioner M. Lakshmi prayed before the Court that a direction be issued, forbearing the respondents (Producers of the movie in question) from releasing the feature film, namely, Iruttu Arayil Murattu Kuthu - Irandam Kuthu ( 2020 ).

The movie is said to be the sequel of the movie "Iruttu Arayil Murattu Kuththu", released in 2018.

Order of the Court

Upon hearing the arguments of the Counsels appearing for the Petitioners and the Special Government Pleader, appearing for Government of Tamil Nadu & The Director General of Police, Tamil Nadu and Additional Solicitor General of India, the Court made the following order,

"There shall be a direction to the respondents to delete the teaser of the movie called 'Iruttu Arayil Murattu Kuthu – Irandam Kuthu (2020) from the social media forthwith."

As per the report of TOI, while ordering for the removal of film's teaser, the Bench orally observed, "We cannot forget the fact that there is a steep increase in the offences against women and children. If these vulgar contents are available in social media, then it will definitely spoil the younger minds."

The High Court has also sent notices to Tamil Nadu State Home Secretary, Director General of Police, Information Technology Department Secretary, Censor Board, and the film's director, Santhosh P Jayakumar, to file their respective responses.

The matter has been posted for further hearing on Thursday (03rd December).
