The Madras High Court has called for the Case Diary with respect to the investigation being carried out in relation to the unfortunate incident of mixing human feces in overhead tank which resulted in the hospitalisation of persons belonging to scheduled caste community in Pudukottai district.

The bench of Acting Chief Justice T Raja and Justice Bharatha Chakravarthy also stated that the court would appoint a retired judge of the High Court to monitor the investigations being carried out by the CB-CID.

The unfortunate incident came to light last year when human feces were found dumped in a water tank in Pudukkottai district. Unaware of the mixing, the villagers (mostly belonging to scheduled caste community) consumed the water for almost a week causing various health problems and agony.

Following the incident, the Madurai bench of the Madras High court had sought for a detailed report from the District Collector and the Superintendent of Police. The investigation was transferred to the CB-CID.

Advocate K. Rajkamal had filed the present PIL seeking for a CBI enquiry into the issue. The petitioner submitted that though nearly three months had passed, no arrests were made till now. He also said that the state police may not investigate the matter fairly.

Additional Advocates General J Ravindran submitted a detailed status report informing the court of the manner in which the investigation was being carried out. It was submitted that 147 persons had been examined so far and that the investigation was being carried out in a fair manner.

The court, after hearing both the sides, decided to pass orders after perusing the matters. It also suggested towards appointing of the retired judge.
