The Madras High Court has adjourned the summer vacations for all the courts in the state of Tamil Nadu and in the UT of Puducherry.

In notifications issued for the same, it has been intimated that the summer vacation of all the Subordinate courts in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, scheduled for May 1 till May 31, are kept in abeyance and stand adjourned.

Similarly, the summer vacations of the High Court at Madras and its bench at Madurai have been postponed sine die, subject to any decision being taken in the future.

Thus all the courts will function regularly during the abovementioned period.

The move is in suit with the High Courts at Delhi, Telangana and Karnataka that have resolved to cancel the summer vacation for the High Court and all subordinates Courts, to compensate for the loss of working hours due to the lockdown.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court Advocates-on-Record Association (SCAORA) has requested the Supreme Court to "partially cancel" the Summer vacations and conduct hearings between the period of May 18, 2020 and June 26, 2020.
