Looking at the recent spike in the number of Corona Virus cases & containment zones in the city, the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court has decided to hear cases only via Video Conferencing when the court reopens after the summer vacation.

The High Court Benches are due to resume functioning from July 6 onwards. In an administrative order issued on Saturday it is intimated that physical functioning of the Lucknow bench shall remain suspended and "hearing of cases shall be conducted only through Video Conferencing."

The move has however been opposed by the Awadh Bar Association, Lucknow, which expressed its "resentment" by way of a Resolution dated July 4.

In a meeting convened in the presence of President and General Secretary of the Association, it was resolved that hearing through Video Conferencing is not a very smooth procedure and when the members of Awadh Bar Association are ready for physical hearing and are ready to take risk for discharging their essential function in justice Delivery System, this arrangement being made, even without consulting the Governing Council of Awadh Bar Association, is not expected.

"Physical hearing was going on smoothly in tune with the demand of 99 percentage of lawyers. When all the offices, commercial establishment, and Malls are open, it is very surprising to close hearing in open courts," the Resolution states.

In light of above, the Governing Council of the Association has requested the Chief Justice to review this arrangement and continue with the Physical hearing.
