DigiLocker Offers About 494 Crore Digital Docs From Govt Agencies, Considering Integration With Passport Seva: Centre Tells Lok Sabha

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology informed the Lok Sabha that it is in the process of adding all government-issued citizen-centric proof documents in DigiLocker.
Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar stated that DigiLocker already offers around 494 Crore digital documents from various Government, Semi-Govt, Private and autonomous departments/ institutions.
Further, it issues digital copies of Ration Cards for 15 States and Marriage Certificates for 17 States. He added that DigiLocker is in discussion with Passport Seva for the issuance of Passport.
He informed that important documents for Government benefits, employment, financial inclusion and education can be obtained through DigiLocker directly from the issuing agencies in real time.
The aforesaid information was provided in response to following queries raised by MP Nayab Singh:
- (a)whether important documents for Government benefits, employment, financial inclusion and education can be obtained through Digi locker directly from the issuing agencies in real time;
- (b) if so, the number of issuing agencies so far along with the details thereof;
- (c) whether the Government proposes to include documents like Indian Passport, Foreign Passport, Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) issued by Election Commission of India, Foreign Citizenship document of India, Person of Indian Origin Card, Marriage Certificate and Ration Card etc. in Digi locker; and
- (d) if so, the details thereof along with the timeline of including above said documents in one Digi locker?
It was informed that DigiLocker platform currently has 1783 issuers. Moreover, it was stated that a list of the Issuer organizations and the issued documents available on DigiLocker is available at the "Issuers" tab at: https://www.digilocker.gov.in/statistics.
Further, it was mentioned that the DigiLocker team is constantly in touch with the concerned ministries/ departments for onboarding new services and around 494 Crore digital documents have been made available in DigiLocker till date from various Government, Semi-Govt, Private and autonomous departments/ institutions.
In addition to this, he stated that the integration of the ministries/ departments solely depends upon the administrative approvals issued by the respective ministries/ departments. Various workshops for DigiLocker are being held in States/UTs to create awareness in the government departments about benefits of DigiLocker and step-by-step description on how to integrate with DigiLocker, he added.
