The Bar Council of India in a press release on Monday made an appeal to members of the bar to maintain peace and harmony in the Courts and resume court work from Tuesday.
BCI requested all the advocates to go carefully go through the Delhi High Court's order dated November 3, Sunday wherein a judicial enquiry into the clash between lawyers and police officials in Tis Hazari Court premises on Saturday, was ordered.
Retired Justice SP Garg has been appointed by the High Court to head the probe. CBI Director will assist in the said judicial probe and it must be completed within 6 weeks.
"We should not forget that six weeks' time is not very long, rather for a judicial enquiry it is quite short" the press release states. Then, the press release refers to the video of a lawyer thrashing a policeman in Saket Court complex that is being circulated today on social media -
"Different CCTV footages and videos are being highlighted on TV channels and across social media. We will simply request the Hon'ble Members of the Bar to carefully watch the same because the opponents will try to take undue advantage of it. Some are being manipulated also (as per information). Therefore, we Lawyers, are to be very cautious and keep away from being part of any unruly mob.
Even today, some people are circulating on social media some incidents at Tis Hazari Courts, Saket and other Bar complexes. We know all these are being made in order to malign the image of the Bar. Overwhelming majority of members of the Bar are peace loving."
Finally, BCI made an appeal to all advocates not to resort to any action "that would tarnish the image of lawyers and ultimately lead to losing the sympathy of the Courts and the common people."
