All India Institute of Medical Sciences has informed the Delhi High Court that a large number of the Institute's workforce is unable to reach the AIIMS Pharmacy due to the ongoing lockdown.

The said information was given before the Division Bench of Justice Vipin Sanghi and Justice Rajnish Bhatnagar.

In addition to this, AIIMS also informed the court that due to the lack of movement of the workforce, caused by the ongoing lockdown, the functioning of the AIIMS Pharmacy has been affected.

These submissions were made in a PIL filed by Rachna Malik, seeking access to medicines to patients who live in the Rain Baseras outside AIIMS. These persons are out station patients who had come to AIIMS to receive treatment.

The Petitioner had submitted that on account of the COVID -19 pandemic, these patients are not being provided medication that they were earlier receiving from the pharmacy at AIIMS.

Therefore, the Petitioner demanded some arrangement to be made so that these patients could be provided with medications till the time the lockdown continues, and the pharmacy at AIIMS remains non-functional.

After these submissions, the court noted that there's already a pending PIL which is dealing with the similar matter and prayers.

Therefore, the court directed that the status report which will be filed by AIIMS in that PIL shall also be forwarded to the Petitioner in this case.

The court will next take up this matter on May 08.

Petitioner in this case was represented by Mr Vaibhav Pratap Singh and Ms Sharanya Sinha
