The Committee of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Leader of Opposition V. D. Satheeshan and Speaker A. N. Shamseer has decided to appoint former Judge of Kerala High Court Justice Alexander Thomas, as the Chairman of State Human Rights Commission. The notification shall be issued once the recommendation is approved by the Governor.

Justice Thomas was appointed as the Additional Judge of Kerala High Court on 23 January 2014 and became a permanent Judge on 10 March 2016. He was the Acting Chief Justice of the High Court for a brief period in 2023. He retired as a Judge on 3rd September 2023.

Mr. Byjunath is now performing the duties of the Commission as Acting Chairperson.
