A Judicial First Class Magistrate Court (JFCM) at Ernakulam on Wednesday, remanded the three accused persons, Muhammad Shafi alias Rasheed, Bhagaval Singh and Laila to judicial custody for 14 days, in the human sacrifice case at Elanthoor Village in Pathanamthitta, Kerala.
Two women lottery vendors had been abducted, killed and buried as part of a ritualistic sacrifice, in the months of June and September.
While one of the women was abducted from Kalady in June, the other went missing from Kadavanthra, following which a case was registered on September 26. The two middle-aged women hailed form Ernakulam.
It is alleged that Shafi persuaded the couple to go for human sacrifice, while claiming that it will bring them prosperity. It is also alleged that the accused Shafi is a habitual offender, and had persuaded the couple to commit the atrocity. The accused Shafi is further alleged to have taken into account the financial background of the victims before proceeding with the plans in abducting them.
It has further been alleged that the dismembered body parts of the women were cooked and eaten by the accused persons for prosperity.
The Kerala High Court had on Tuesday, expressed shock over the incident, and wondered where the State was headed to.
