A lawyer and former Central Government Counsel has preferred a writ petition before the Kerala High Court seeking to immediately administer homoeopathic medicines for Covid-19 to willing students, taking into account the fact that schools will reopen next month.
The petitioner Advocate M.S Vineeth had previously moved a representation to the State to provide alternate medical protection against Covid-19 for school children by immediately administering homoeopathic prophylactic medicines to them.
However, failure of the State to consider or allow the said representation prompted the petitioner to move the Court.
The said representation was made in light of the recent announcement by the government regarding the reopening of schools in the month of November.
However, no decision has been taken till date to vaccinate those under the age of 18 years against Covid-19, the plea avers.
The petitioner also cited a judgment of the High Court whereby it was recorded that the action plan of the Homeo Department to provide Homeo medicines against Covid-19 was approved by the State.
The plea also relied on a recent Supreme Court decision by which homeopathy was approved as a therapeutic aid in preventing COVID-19, and referred to such medicines as medicines for prophylaxis, amelioration and mitigation.
On the strength of these decisions, the petitioner urged that the extensive use of homoeopathy against Covid-19 was absolutely validated.
In the petition, it has been prayed that a direction be issued to the State to urgently provide sufficient doses of Homeopathic prophylactic medicines to all the students willing for the same, particularly before the reopening of schools, which has been scheduled for November 2021.
The plea also sought a directive to entrust the concerned schools to administer homoeopathic prophylactic medicines to their respective students and to maintain appropriate data regarding such administration and its effectiveness.
The petition has been filed through Advocate V.T Madhavanunni.
