The Kerala High Court on Tuesday issued notice on Olympian Mayookha Johny's plea to quash the FIR lodged against her for allegedly raising false rape allegations against C.C. Johnson who serves at the Emperor Emmanuel Church.
When the counsel for the petitioner pointed out that the petitioner is an Olympian, Justice K Haripal orally remarked:
"How is that related to the case? That doesn't change anything. Let the Police investigate into the allegations."
Advocate P.A. Ayub Khan appearing for the petitioner argued that the case was lodged to pressurise her into withdrawing her support to a friend who was raped by Johnson, who also took her nude photos and used them to blackmail her.
He added that it was a mere attempt to defame her and contended that the case against one of the prime accused in the FIR was quashed and therefore, the same relief could be granted for her as well.
The accused in the rape case was granted anticipatory bail by the Supreme Court, reversing the decision of the High Court.
The athlete had made headlines after holding a press conference levelling serious allegations against the investigation agencies in the case. She alleged that her friend was being threatened and that the investigation had come to a standstill due to the intervention of highly influential persons in favour of the accused.
