The Kerala High Court has introduced Machine Scrutiny to writ petitions, excluding miscellaneous matters, with effective from November 1, 2024.

In July 2023, machine scrutiny was introduced for the first time for automated scrutiny of Bail Applications. This was done to improve efficiency and speed in the e-filing process. In November 2023, machine scrutiny was also introduced for scrutiny of writ appeals.

It is to be noted that if the Court Officer finds any defects or non-compliance of procedure after the machine scrutiny, registration and listing of writ petitions, Court Officer could mark such non-compliance or defect by issuance of a short order during the Court's proceedings.

Machine scrutiny would reduce human intervention during the scrutiny of files, reducing the chances of errors.
